Each division writes its own playing rules. Anything a division's rules don't cover falls back to Senior Softball USA rules, which the JSSA plays by.

If you have a question about a specific rule or how it's applied in your division, your team manager and division directors are the best first point of contact.
Senior Softball USA rulebook
The JSSA plays by Senior Softball USA rules except where a division's own rules change them. Senior Softball USA keeps the current rulebook on their website, so the link below is always the latest edition:
This opens Senior Softball USA's own website in a new tab. The rulebook is their publication, so we link to it rather than keep a copy that would fall out of date.
Looking for one rule? Search instead of reading
Once the rulebook is open, you can jump straight to a word — courtesy runner, commitment line, bat — without reading the whole book.
On a computer
- Hold Ctrl and press F.
On a Mac, hold ⌘ Command and press F. - A small search box appears, usually at the top or bottom corner.
- Type the word you want and press Enter.
- Use the little ↑ and ↓ arrows in that box to step through every place the word appears.
On a phone or tablet
- Tap the menu button in your browser — the three dots ⋮ or the share icon.
- Choose Find in page (on some phones it's a magnifying glass 🔍).
- Type the word you want.
- Tap the arrows to move between each place it appears.
Past seasons
Earlier seasons' rules are kept here for reference.
